Here to take the stress out of remote editing so you can focus on what’s important. Created by people who know the job.

What We Do

Big Sky Post is a rental house focused on remote editing. We are driven by our commitment to providing simple technology, and equipment solutions for remote post production work. As pioneers in this space, we have done our homework. We’ve worked with, and studied remote post productions here in the US and abroad, in order to provide the best and most reliable system.

The Big Sky remote system

Our system is PC based that uses PCoIP technology, in other words, uses a mirrored screen from the computer located at the main office where your shared storage is located.

  • We offer real time collaboration and multiple editors working on the same project, exactly like the traditional workflow on bigger shows.
  • Efficiency – save time, no need to duplicate raw footage or upload footage to a hard drive or the cloud.
  • Security is our top priority. All systems require a login, and all data sent from the remote system is encrypted.
  • When you rent with us you will have access to our secure web portal for step by step videos on “how to” set up your Big Sky system, along with other support tools.

FAQs

What kind of internet speed is required for my remote editors and producers?

A normal speed of 30mbps download and 10mbps upload is all you need. So not blazing fast by any means. You will need an ethernet cable attached to your system. At this point wifi is not a solid enough connection.

We need multiple systems connected to our shared storage. Can you do this?

No problem. You can connect as many systems as your shared media system allows.

What We Are Not

Cloud Based Remote Systems – This solution will work great if you have a smaller project or if budget is not a concern. Loading terabytes of footage in the cloud is going to be very time consuming and extremely cost prohibitive.

Hard Drive Remote systems – This option is best suited to a single editor working on a project. Where it becomes very messy quickly is when you have multiple editors. Many times the editor can’t reference footage from before or after the scene they are working on, so the show can quickly start to feel like a Frankenshow. The drives are also very loud and still they don’t have enough space to hold all your footage (especially if you have a project with a massive amount of B-roll). Hours and hours of Script Sync work is often a big problem to relink not to mention relinking footage problems.

Copying media to drives is a laborious and time consuming process as well as a security concern if someone were to have a drive stolen or copied.

About Us

Andy Castor

Andy has been editing primetime shows for over 20 years in both Hollywood and Australia. With a handful of Primetime Emmy nominations, he has a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver quality creative content. If he hasn’t worked with you yet, chances are he knows someone you’ve worked with.

It was his time in Australia that brought to light just how effective and seamless the Big Sky remote system could be.

Born and raised in Montana, Andy’s thirst for adventure has taken him around the globe and back again. During his time saved with a zero commute, you’ll likely find him playing basketball, surfing or golfing.

Adam Barnett

Adam is the bad ass tech guy who turned this vision into a reality by creating these systems from scratch. He takes immense pride in his work and has created many of the efficient workflows that save hundreds of hours on shows like MasterChef and Next in Fashion. During Adam’s time saved with his zero commute, he enjoys playing with his kids, taking photographs, or jamming in a band.
